Ideal Weight Calculator
See your estimated ideal body weight from four established formulas — Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi — shown separately rather than averaged into one number.
Estimated ideal weight by formula
Four established formulas are shown separately rather than averaged — they can disagree by several kilograms, and none is more “correct” than the others.
56.9 kg (125.5 lb)
Devine (1974)
57.4 kg (126.6 lb)
Robinson (1983)
59.8 kg (131.9 lb)
Miller (1983)
56.4 kg (124.4 lb)
Hamwi (1964)
These decades-old formulas estimate a population-average “ideal” weight from height alone — they don't account for muscle mass, frame size, body composition or health conditions, so an individual's healthy weight can reasonably fall outside these numbers. They're a reference point, not a target to chase.

How to use ideal weight calculator
- 1Choose your sex and enter your height (metric or imperial).
- 2Compare the estimated ideal weight from each of the four formulas.
About this tool
"Ideal body weight" formulas were originally developed to estimate drug dosing in medicine, not as a personal health target — they were later adopted more broadly as rough weight references. Several different formulas exist, developed by different researchers at different times, and they don't agree with each other.
This calculator shows all four side by side — Devine (1974), Robinson (1983), Miller (1983) and Hamwi (1964) — rather than picking one or averaging them, since none has a stronger claim to being "correct" than the others. Each is a base weight at 5 feet plus an increment per inch of additional height, split by sex.
None of these formulas account for muscle mass, frame size, body composition or individual health, so a healthy weight for a specific person can reasonably fall well outside every one of these numbers. Treat them as historical reference points, not a target.
Frequently asked questions
They were developed independently by different researchers using different reference populations and methods, decades apart. None is definitively more accurate than the others for an individual — that's exactly why they're shown separately here instead of averaged into a single misleadingly precise number.
