About this tool

PNG is lossless, so it keeps text, diagrams, charts and screenshots perfectly sharp — there are none of the fuzzy JPEG artefacts that appear around lettering. That makes PDF to PNG the better choice for slides, documentation, spreadsheets and anything with fine lines. For photo-heavy pages, PDF to JPG produces much smaller files.

Each page is drawn by pdf.js, the same open-source PDF renderer built into Firefox, at the resolution you choose, then saved as a PNG. Very large pages such as posters and engineering drawings are capped at about 16 megapixels so they still convert on phones. The PDF is read on your device and never uploaded.

PNG images are pictures of the page: the text in them can't be selected or searched. If you need the words themselves, use PDF to Text instead.

PNG for text, diagrams, charts and screenshots — it stays perfectly sharp. JPG for scanned photos or image-heavy pages, where it gives much smaller files that look almost identical.
