Remove EXIF Data

Strip hidden metadata — like GPS location, camera model and timestamps — from your photos before sharing them, by re-encoding each image locally in your browser.

Your files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers.

How to use remove exif data

  1. 1Upload one or more JPG, PNG or WebP images.
  2. 2Each image is automatically re-encoded to strip metadata.
  3. 3Compare the original and cleaned file sizes.
  4. 4Download individually or as a ZIP.

About this tool

Photos from phones and cameras often carry EXIF metadata — GPS coordinates, device model, timestamps and more — embedded invisibly in the file. This can unintentionally reveal your location or device when a photo is shared.

This tool works by decoding each image and re-encoding its pixel data from scratch on an HTML canvas. Since a canvas only has access to color data, not the original file's metadata blocks, none of that EXIF information — including GPS tags — survives the round trip.

Because the pixels are redrawn rather than the file simply copied, this tool cannot verify or list which specific metadata fields existed in your original photo; it can only confirm that re-encoding discards all of it, along with things like embedded color profiles or thumbnail previews some formats also carry.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. GPS coordinates are stored as EXIF tags, and re-encoding an image through canvas discards all EXIF data, GPS included, since canvas only works with pixel colors.
