About this tool
Colors are generated in HSL space with randomized hue and controlled saturation/lightness ranges, which tends to produce more usable, less muddy colors than picking fully random RGB values — very dark, very light or very desaturated colors are avoided by design.
Locking a color keeps it fixed while everything else regenerates, which is a common way to build a palette around one color you already like — your brand color, for example — while exploring options for the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Each color picks a random hue (0-360°) with saturation and lightness kept within ranges chosen to avoid overly dark, overly light or washed-out results — producing generally usable colors rather than fully uniform random RGB values.
