About this tool

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones use by default since iOS 11 — it compresses better than JPG, but many apps, websites and older software still can't open it, which is why converting to JPG is often the quickest fix.

Since browsers don't decode HEIC natively, this tool uses an open-source WebAssembly build of libheif — the same underlying decoder most HEIC tools rely on — to read the photo's pixel data directly, then re-encodes it as a standard JPG. The whole process runs on your device; photos are never uploaded anywhere.

The converted JPG keeps the same pixel dimensions as the original HEIC photo. If a file doesn't decode — for example if it's corrupted or isn't actually a HEIC/HEIF file despite the extension — the tool reports that clearly instead of producing a broken image.

Frequently asked questions

iPhones have saved photos as HEIC by default since iOS 11, since it produces smaller files than JPG at similar quality. Many apps and older software still expect JPG, which is why converting is often necessary before sharing or uploading a photo elsewhere.
