PNG to WebP

Convert PNG images to WebP, the modern web format that's typically much smaller than PNG while keeping transparency — ideal for speeding up websites.

Your files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers.

How to use png to webp

  1. 1Drag in one or more PNG images.
  2. 2Each one converts to WebP automatically.
  3. 3Download individually or as a ZIP, then upload them to your site.

About this tool

WebP files are usually far smaller than the same image as a PNG, which helps pages load faster and can improve Core Web Vitals scores. Transparency is supported, so logos and icons convert cleanly. Every current browser displays WebP.

Conversion uses your browser's own WebP encoder at high quality (lossy, quality 92). Screenshots with lots of small text are the one case where PNG can still look crisper — compare both before replacing images on a site. Some older browsers, including older Safari versions, can't create WebP files; if yours can't, the tool says so rather than saving a mislabelled PNG.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the image. Photos saved as PNG often shrink by 70–90%; flat graphics and logos usually still shrink noticeably. The tool shows the original and new size for each file.
