Type this passage: The best way to get faster at typing is to slow down first. Accuracy builds the habits that speed depends on, so focus on hitting the right keys and let your pace grow on its own over a few weeks of practice.

About this tool
WPM uses the standard definition of a word as five characters, including spaces, so results are comparable with other typing tests no matter how long the passage's words are. Net WPM counts only correctly typed characters; raw WPM counts everything you typed. Accuracy compares the keys you pressed with the right ones — fixing a mistake with Backspace corrects the text, but the original slip still counts against your accuracy.
Average adults type around 35–45 WPM; 60+ WPM is fast, and professional typists often reach 70–90. Accuracy matters as much as speed: practising slowly and accurately builds the muscle memory that speed grows from. Pasting is disabled so results reflect real typing.
The passages were written for this site in everyday English. The test runs entirely in your browser — your typing isn't recorded or sent anywhere.
