About this tool
Lorem Ipsum is scrambled Latin that typesetters have used as filler text since the 1500s. It comes from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC), but it's deliberately meaningless — so people reviewing a design look at the layout, typography and spacing instead of reading the words.
The generator varies sentence and paragraph lengths so the text flows like real copy, which gives a more realistic idea of how a design handles different line and paragraph lengths. Word mode gives an exact count, useful for testing character limits in headlines, buttons and form fields.
Replace placeholder text before publishing: search engines treat Lorem Ipsum as low-value content, and it's easy to miss a leftover block on a live page.
Frequently asked questions
It's a jumbled extract from a Latin text by Cicero on the theory of ethics. "Dolorem ipsum" means roughly "pain itself", but the standard passage has been scrambled so that it doesn't read as meaningful Latin.
