Length, weight, area and volume conversions here work by converting your input into a common base unit (meters, kilograms, square meters, liters or meters per second) and then into your target unit — a standard, accurate approach that avoids compounding rounding errors across many unit pairs.
Temperature is handled differently since Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin aren't related by a simple multiplier — converting between them uses their proper formulas, such as °F = °C × 9/5 + 32, rather than a fixed ratio.
Results are rounded to a sensible number of significant digits for readability, and very large or very small results switch to scientific notation automatically so the display stays clear.
Frequently asked questions
Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin scales don't share a common zero point, so converting between them requires an offset as well as a scale factor — a straight multiplication would give the wrong answer, which is why temperature uses dedicated formulas instead.
