About this tool
Base64 is a way of representing binary or text data using only 64 printable characters, which makes it safe to embed inside places that expect plain text, such as JSON payloads, URLs, email attachments or configuration files.
Encoding takes your text, treats it as UTF-8 bytes, and represents those bytes as Base64 — this keeps accented characters, emoji and non-English text intact. Decoding reverses the process, turning a Base64 string back into the original text.
If a Base64 string is malformed — for example it contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet or has incorrect padding — decoding will fail, and the tool shows a clear error rather than silently producing garbled text.
Frequently asked questions
No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption — anyone can decode it back to the original text with no key required. It's meant for safely representing data as text, not for keeping information secret.
