About this tool

SVG is a vector format: shapes are stored as maths, not pixels, so they can be drawn at any size without blurring. Many places — social networks, slide software, email signatures, app stores — still only accept bitmap images, which is where PNG comes in. Because the SVG is rendered directly at your chosen size, a 4× PNG is just as crisp as a 1× one, not an enlarged blurry copy.

The tool reads the SVG's width, height and viewBox to work out its natural size, including SVGs that only declare a viewBox (which some browsers otherwise treat as 300 × 150). Output is capped at about 16 megapixels to stay within browser limits on phones.

For security, browsers render SVGs used as images without running scripts or loading external files, so SVGs that link to external images or web fonts will render without them — embed fonts as outlines and images as data before converting. Everything runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

For use on screens, 2× the size you'll display it at keeps it sharp on high-resolution displays. For an app icon or print, use the exact pixel size requested, typed into the Width box.
