About this tool
Splitting a bill fairly means calculating the tip first, adding it to the bill, and only then dividing by the number of people — this calculator does exactly that, rather than tipping on a per-person amount that's already been divided.
Common tip percentages are offered as quick presets, alongside a custom field for any other value. The number of people defaults sensibly to at least one, so an empty or zero value never causes a division error.
