About this tool

The watermark is drawn as semi-transparent text on top of each page, so the content underneath stays readable. A diagonal mark at 20–30% opacity is the classic look for drafts and confidential documents; the repeated pattern makes it harder to crop out of a screenshot.

Rotated and landscape pages are handled correctly — the watermark is centred on each page as it appears on screen. The rest of the PDF isn't re-rendered, so text stays selectable and the quality doesn't change.

A watermark deters casual copying and shows a document's status, but it isn't security: anyone with PDF editing software can remove a text watermark. For sensitive documents, also limit who you share them with. The watermark uses the standard Helvetica font, which covers English and Western European characters such as é, ü and £, but not non-Latin scripts like Chinese, Arabic or Cyrillic.

Frequently asked questions

With effort, yes — a text watermark is part of the page content and PDF editors can delete it. It's an effective visible label and deterrent, not copy protection.
